Since November 1, 2014, the new Civil Status Act has been applied. Since then, births, deaths, marriages, and other civil status cases are no longer recorded in books that have been kept by the registry offices since January 1, 1939, but in the Central Civil Status Register (ZPR). Citizenship evidence is stored in the Central Citizenship Register (ZPS).
Please note:
The transition to the above-mentioned ZPR and ZSR results in significant and time-consuming additional work for each "birth registry office". This can lead to delays and waiting times. It is therefore advisable to make an appointment by phone.
To record civil status cases (births, marriages, deaths), the following original documents must be presented to the registry office:
- Birth Certificate
- Citizenship Certificate
- Marriage Certificate (in case of dissolution of marriage also divorce decree or death certificate)
- Birth Certificate of Child/ren
- Acknowledgment of Paternity, Declaration of Custody
- if necessary in the event of death - certificate of domicile
