The committee acts in an advisory capacity on all social issues and in the areas of health, education, and youth. The committee is responsible for preliminary discussions and submitting proposals to the municipal council or city council on all matters assigned to the committee.

The Committee for Social, Health, Education and Youth deals, for example, with requests for rental subsidy grants in special hardship cases, city-owned subsidies (e.g. heating cost subsidies from the city), as well as various support or subsidy applications from socially active institutions and associations.

In addition, matters concerning city kindergartens (e.g. preliminary discussions on projects for year-round/full-day kindergarten Eichholz, integration and Montessori kindergarten Klösterle, etc.) and the compulsory school sector are among the focal points of the committee.
