City Council

The City Council in Lienz consists of the mayor, the first and second deputy mayors, as well as at least one more member of the municipal council. The number of additional council members is determined by the municipal council. The deputy mayors and the other members of the city council are elected by the municipal council from among its members.

The positions to be filled are divided among the individual parties in the municipal council based on the results of the last municipal council election.

Currently, there is a mandate ratio of 3 (SPÖ) to 1 (ÖVP) in the Lienz City Council.

The City Council is called upon to prepare in advance all matters subject to the decision of the municipal council, unless special committees have been established for this purpose or the municipal council does not immediately address the matter due to its urgency. It is also authorized to make independent decisions on various matters within its own area of responsibility delegated by the municipal council.

The decision-making basis is compiled in writing by the departments and companies responsible in the city of Lienz and submitted to the City Council for decision-making.

In the city of Lienz, the members of the City Council meet every 2-3 weeks for meetings.
