The Project

This topic is dedicated to the project initiated by the city of Lienz
"Regional Soil Improvement, Humus Building through Compost".

The aim is to provide impulses to sustainably improve agricultural practices and soils in the district and at the same time to give a valuable resource from regional waste management, compost from biogenic waste, a high-quality use in the sense of circular economy.

For this reason, the Waste Management Association Osttirol and the Compost and Biogas Association were won as project partners. This project is also made possible by the support of Regionsmanagement Osttirol, through funding from the European Regional Development Fund and the State of Tyrol, Department of Regional Development/EU Regional Policy.

The project is professionally supported by the “HUMUS+ Model Ecoregion Kaindorf”, which has been working with farmers throughout Austria for 15 years and now shows how humus can be built up on over 5,000 hectares. As part of the project, there is close cooperation with the LLA-Lienz, which has made 9 areas available for experimental purposes in order to show how changing the management method and using compost can improve the soil structure and soil fertility.
