Hundreds of construction site visitors explored the Isel

"The crowd is enormous, which underpins that the Isel as a lifeline of the district is also seen as an emotional link between humans and nature," said Mayor Elisabeth Blanik, who acts as the client of the flood protection project in the middle of the city.  

The project is ambitious and, with an estimated construction period of three years and a total budget of 14 million, is one of Tyrol"s largest flood protection projects. For Lienz, too, the construction project is one of the largest construction projects in recent decades. With this, the Isel river bed is placed over one kilometer by up to 2.5 meters deeper. "This increases the security of the population and the security of many subsequent generations," said Blanik.

An assessment that also shared the experts on site, who led around 300 students through the Isel stream bed in the morning before the public was able to inspect the construction work up close from 1 p.m.

The experts from the municipality of Lienz, the Lienz construction district, from Revital and the Hohe Tauern National Park - House of Water in the ward company gave insights into the current state of work, the history and necessity of the measures taken as well as the water ecology of the glacier river.
