To mitigate the financial burden on parents and legal guardians, the city of Lienz supports children who are enrolled in the first grades with a school start allowance.
This year, the city of Lienz provides 150 euros for each school-age child who is enrolled in the 1st grade of one of the three Lienz elementary schools or in the 1st grade of the special school in Lienz for the school year 2026/27. The condition is that the student has their primary residence in Lienz.
Students who switch to another elementary school due to an approved district change also receive this amount. "Starting school is often expensive. With this support, we want to contribute to the financial relief of families," explains Mayor Elisabeth Blanik.
The subsidy is income-dependent, which means that financial support is only granted if the monthly net household income does not exceed a certain threshold (2 persons/2,200 euros; 3 persons/2,700 euros; 4 persons/3,100 euros; 5 persons/3,500 euros; 6 persons/3,900 euros; each additional person 400 euros).
Legal guardians of a Lienz school starter can now - until December 31, 2026 at the latest - collect the 150 euros in cash upon presentation of a photo ID at the Citizen Service Office on the ground floor of Liebburg.
In addition, the applicant must present the current monthly net household income without considering special payments (13th and 14th salary) by providing the relevant income documents.
