Following the motto "Shared history, shared future," representatives of the cities of Lienz and Gorizia met for a working meeting on March 24. The focus was on enhancing the visibility of their common historical roots.
Representatives of both partner cities agreed on enhanced cross-border cooperation between Gorizia and Lienz during a working meeting on Tuesday, March 24, in Gorizia. The Lienz municipal council and partnership officer Paul Meraner, along with councilors Patrizia Artico, Antonio Devetag, and Luca Cagliari on the Italian side, set the central course for the further development of the city partnership.
The focus was particularly on the shared past and the historically grown connection - from the County of Gorizia-Tyrol to the end of the Habsburg Empire. In the future, this should serve as a foundation for cultural projects, events, and encounter formats. The goal is not only to preserve history but also to make it experiential and derive new impulses for the present.
Furthermore, the importance of the partnership in the European context, especially in the Alpine-Adriatic region, was emphasized. A continuous dialogue and increased involvement of institutions and cultural actors are intended to further deepen cooperation.
It was repeatedly emphasized during the meeting that it should not just be about declarations of intent. As a symbolic gesture of solidarity, Paul Meraner presented the representatives of Gorizia with a "Sun City Lienz" sun lounger, which will surely find a suitable place in the historic city. Paul Meraner expressed satisfaction after the meeting: "The foundation has been laid, the political will is present - now cooperation can pick up speed."
