The fire brigade youth of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Lienz collected 1.5 cubic meters of trash in the Pfister and Hochstein area. This included grill and party accessories as well as construction and garden waste.
After the fire brigade youth of Lienz was prevented from participating in the "Do it Day" of the waste management association Osttirol in cooperation with the city of Lienz, the young helpers, together with employees of the city"s environmental department and their supervisors Robert Mayer, Michael Bachlechner, Noah Pichler and Lukas Lechner, once again set out on Saturday, April 11, to clean up the Pfister and Schlossberg from trash.
They had to realize how carelessly some people treat nature and the popular recreational area. The diligent youths collected 1.5 cubic meters of residual waste. This included countless cigarette packs, cigarette butts, broken clay pots, packaging materials, food residues, and plastic waste.
Metal cooking pots, bowls, iron rods, garden and patio furniture, as well as flower pots, bed mattresses, foam mats, and a car battery were also part of the collection of the twelve voluntary helpers.
In addition, there were tin and spray cans, cardboard boxes, construction site waste, roofing felt, building insulation materials, sheet metal, plastic pipes, bags, advertising boards, as well as an increasing amount of biogenic garden waste such as grass clippings, flower and leaf waste. Other found items included clothing items like jackets, shoes, and socks. All of this was collected and properly disposed of at the city of Lienz"s recycling center.
Considering the beginning of the barbecue season at the popular rest areas on Isel and Drau, the environmental office of the city of Lienz appeals to all individuals to take back home any brought food items that are not consumed, as well as the packaging material. This also applies to all other party leftovers. As a sign of respect towards nature but also towards those fellow human beings who also wish to visit the barbecue areas.
Furthermore, carelessly discarded waste often has serious consequences for the ecosystem, as it is eaten or stepped on by wild, farm, and domestic animals, resulting in very painful consequences for the animals.
