          Hospitality is a tradition

The culinary offers in Lienz are many. Mostly down-to-earth, which is un-
derstandable, as mostly local products are used and many recipes origina-
te from traditional farm cuisine. You should defi nitely try typical dishes like
“Osttiroler Schlipfkrapfen” (a kind of dumplings, made from dough fi lled with
mashed potatoes) or “Tiroler Knödel” (Tyrolean dumplings). The “Pregler”
(a type of liquor) after the meal is a must; they say it keeps body and soul
together. But not only traditional cuisine is at home in Lienz. From Gault-Mil-
lau-honoured restaurants to traditional inns, from Italian to Chinese food,
from stylish wine bars to comfortable cafés – Lienz demonstrates success-
ful diversity, even in the culinary sector.

The “Entente Florale Europe” is a renowned
competition where it’s not just the most beautiful fl ower decorations
that decide, but the entire environment and living circumstances of
a city. Lienz has accepted the challenge and triumphed. Even into
the town centre, green spaces were diligently planted with colourful
fl owers. The judges’ panel attentively observed the historical back-
ground and the future prospects as well as the blossoming town
centre. An abundance of water, the green paths around Lienz, the
town parks and the old convents and monasteries. And, last but
not least, responsible treatment of the environment. The compe-
tition has been won. What remains is an enviable living space for
 the citizens.
